Love Spirals Downwards began in 1991 when composer/producer Ryan Lum played a song he was working on for his girlfriend, Suzanne Perry, who began to sing along. Inspired by her ideas, they soon recorded vocals for 3 of his instrumentals to create a demo. Projekt featured two of these recordings on ‘From Across This Gray Land 3’ after signing them to the indie label. Their 1992 debut, ‘Idylls’ quickly became Projekt's best-selling album, surpassed 2 years later by the critically acclaimed ‘Ardor’. ‘Sideways Forest EP’, ‘Ever’ and ‘Flux’ — released between 1995 and 1998 — increasingly moved away from “The Projekt Sound” yet found a larger audience in the new millennium. Reflecting on their musical journey, Lum said, "‘Idylls’ is a fantasy of youthful dreamy lysergic and Eastern visions, ‘Ardor’ is an ethereal pop album, ‘Ever’ is a blend of my folky acoustic and electronic ambient trance influences, and with ‘Flux’ we kept our spacey, ethereal, and beautiful sound, yet it’s a drum n bass record, too.” Over the ensuing decades LSD’s albums have been re-released in expanded remastered reissues in addition to a new release of vintage live recordings. Lum has continued to write and record music under the shortened moniker Lovespirals with his wife and bandmate, Anji.
