Since winning the 2009 Leeds Conductors’ Competition at the age of 25, Geoffrey Paterson has established an international reputation as a conductor of ‘impressive command’ and ‘impeccable grace’. Hailed as a conductor with ‘natural and charismatic authority’, Paterson is praised for his ‘winning combination of assuredness, agility and enthusiasm’ as well as his ‘instinct for pace’ and ‘innate feel for orchestral texture’ in repertoire ranging from Bach to Birtwistle. He has conducted at the Royal Danish Opera, Glyndebourne Tour, Opera North, ENO, Frankfurt Opera, Bavarian State Opera and Dutch National Opera, as well as at Covent Garden where he was a Jette Parker Young Artist. In 2020 Paterson made his BBC Proms debut, and will return in 2022 to continue a long-standing collaboration with the London Sinfonietta and Norwegian saxophonist and composer Marius Neset. Paterson has also conducted performances and recordings with the Philharmonia, BBC NOW, BBC Symphony, BBC Scottish Symphony, SCO, OAE, Britten Sinfonia, CLS, Hamburg Symphony Orchestra, Danish National Symphony, Copenhagen Phil, Norwegian Radio, Stavanger Symphony, Basel Sinfonietta, Bayerische Kammerphilharmonie, National Orchestra of Belgium, Amsterdam Sinfonietta and Residentie Orchestra. He is renowned for his work in the field of late 20th-century and contemporary music. Amongst the numerous world premières he has conducted are works by Sir Harrison Birtwistle, Sir Peter Maxwell Davies and James Dillon.
