Biography

Reitir is a Scottish-Norwegian band that plays Robert Burns songs translated to the Norwegian dialect of Telemark, mixed with driving tunes from the Scottish tradition. Their album "Fe Alt Som Eingong Va'" (Auld Lang Syne) celebrates dialects, singing traditions, the warm and feisty poetry of Robert Burns and Scottish traditions in general. This supergroup consists of folk singer Aasmund Nordstoga (traditional song, Sarah-Jane Summers (fiddle), Juhani Silvola (guitar), Morten Kvam (double bass) Ingebjørg Lognvik Reinholdt (traditional song). Their album "Fe alt som eingong va" contains fresh new arrangements of beloved melodies like Auld Lang Syne and A Red Red Rose mixed with vivacious poems written to Scottish dance tunes, like Rigs o’ Barley and Weary fa’ you Duncan Gray. Peter Fjågesund, Professor in British literature, has translated these Robert Burns songs to Norwegian dialect. The use of dialects was important Burns, and he inspired many Norwegian poets who went on to shape a lot of the Norwegian singing tradition.
