The flow that Farinas wields is sporadic, oftentimes hanging over the bar line and resolving thoughts in syncopated rhythms. Like that of a storyteller, he methodically writes each bar, carefully choosing the words with which he tells his stories, and scribbling with unrest until he feels he has found the right expressions. Contrary to the contemporary style he evokes now, his roots are deep-seated in the old-school lyrical complexity of Eminem, Jay-Z, and KRS-One, his father’s favorite artists. “I don’t have a goal in terms of who I want to emulate, I’m more focused on getting my own sound out,” Farinas says. With his hit single, You Get Me So High reaching two million streams on Spotify, and his debut album, Tie Die Tape, in the airwaves, the road ahead is paved with ample opportunity for the Jersey-born artist.
