Biography

Russian pianist Oleg Marshev was born in the Azerbaijani capital city of Baku, and studied at the Moscow Conservatory with Mikhail Voskresensky, graduating in 1988 and winning the Pilar Bayona International Piano Competition in Zaragoza. In 1990, Marshev took the gold medal at the AMSA Piano Competition in Cincinnati and just before the collapse of the former Soviet Union, Marshev settled in Italy. In 1991, Marshev held his New York debut at Alice Tully Hall in Lincoln Center, and has appeared in concert around the world since then. Marshev records exclusively with the Danacord label, and has produced an enormous number of recordings, including the complete solo piano music of Sergey Prokofiev and Emil von Sauer, in addition to four volumes of Danish piano concertos and 12 discs of Russian piano concertos. Marshev is also frequently engaged on the juries of international piano competitions as a judge and gives master classes throughout the world, although primarily in Italy. He also teaches at Anton Bruckner University in Linz.
