Biography

A Midwest born, Bay Area raised, Los Angeles transplant, JaVonté grew up with the best of musical influences: his mother’s love for Gospel music, and the years his father and family exposed him to soulful R&B, Jazz and Hip Hop classics. He is what you would call a multifaceted, ever-evolving artist - songwriter, vocal arranger, and versatile singer who explores his unique sultry voice through the musical spectrum. While touring the world and sharing the stage for nearly a decade with Ms. Gladys Knight as her protégé and young Pip, JaVonté was able to be mentored on showmanship, artistic reinvention, and cultivation of his voice and performance. His smooth yet piercing voice, and emotion evoking timber has allowed him to work with the likes of Beyoncé (Break My Soul) and Snoop Lion (Good Good), to Alex Isley (The Girl Everyone Knows & Running Back), as well as Kendrick Lamar on five albums, landing him a Grammy for background vocalist on the album “To Pimp A Butterfly”. Additionally, he has also written for the likes of TGT, Gladys Knight, and Syd, to name a few. In the midst of working with others, he has also released three projects: Where Have You Been, Even, and a remastered version of Where Have You Been with 4 new songs. His most recent release, Love Gone, is a short story of 3 songs that explores unrequited love, a narrative that JaVonté seems to know all too well. The honesty and vulnerability in this EP welcomes its listeners to find their truth in it also.
