I'm Lyst and I make electronic music. Stay a while and chill out to some dreamy melodies, retro synth sounds and perfect snares. Growing up, I watched Saturday morning MTV and John Hughes movies, listened to Depeche Mode and was fascinated by the 1970s style arpeggios on my grandfather's old Yamaha electric organ. As a teenager I saved all my money for a synthesizer and painstakingly made renditions of my favorite songs with it. Before I knew it I was hooked on song making, producing beat-heavy downtempo, jazzy triphop (collaborating with some musician friends) and house music. This was in the early 2000s. Discovering synthwave around 2015 it just clicked. It felt like a genre made for my specific tastes: synths, arpeggios, retro sounds, strong melodies. In 2022, after a long break from making music I was stoked to start again and produced my first track as Lyst. I get my inspiration from the glossy surface of all things Americana, especially the iconic neon-lit atmosphere of 1980s mall culture and the dreamy nostalgia of the era's movies. My influences are many: Phil Collins' catchy hooks and incredible drum design, Tears for Fears' effortless intense yet chill vibe, Fleetwood Mac's dreampop-before-there-was-dreampop, Depeche Mode's melody-driven synthscapes, and the glittery harmonies of Boy Meets Girl.
