Stefan Meier was born into a Czech family in Wilhelmshaven, Northern Germany. The most key early experience was playing in a string quartet with his three brothers. After graduating from high school, he took up a principal position in the Oldenburg State Orchestra. He founded the Rafael Quartet in Prague in 1997 with Petr Messiereur and Evžen Rattay from the now dissolved Talich Quartet, together with his brother Peter Meier. In addition to appearing at festivals such as the Prague Spring, the quartet toured Switzerland and Venezuela and made recordings for radio and CD. Stefan Meier has been a member of the Bern Symphony Orchestra since 2001. With Trioraro he has recorded Robert Schumann’s complete piano trios and has made a documentary about Brahms’ Opus 8 in collaboration with Professor Hans-Joachim Hinrichsen. In 2019, he oversaw the making of a portrait CD of Neuchâtel romantic composer, Adolphe Veuve in coproduction with Swiss Radio & Television and the publishing house Müller & Schade.
