Biography

b. Long Beach, California, USA. This Atlanta, Georgia, USA-based urban producer/songwriter came to prominence in the late 90s, teaming up with his wife Kandi Burruss aka Kandi to work on some of the most memorable chart hits of the era. Briggs’ father, a professional bass player, made sure his son was taught how to play several instruments as a youngster including classical training on the violin and trumpet. He moved into remix and production work, spending a lot of time in Atlanta doing sessions for the city’s leading urban label, LaFace Records. Briggs teamed up with Burruss in 1998 following the release of her third and final album with R&B quartet Xscape. They enjoyed immediate success providing material for TLC (‘No Scrubs’) and Destiny’s Child (‘Bills, Bills, Bills’), both of which topped the US singles chart in 1999. The following year Burruss was awarded the ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Music Award for Songwriter Of The Year. The duo have worked with artists such as Pink, Boyz II Men, Joe, Faith Evans, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, and ’N Sync, in addition to collaborating on Kandi’s solo debut album, Hey Kandi. Briggs also launched She’kspere Productions and the Spere Records label.
