A professor of the contemporary music department at the College of Santa Fe, David Dunn has created a new view of the environmental world through his music. His compositions blend the distinctions between music, language, and nature, incorporating recordings of insects, beetles, lions, elephants, African congregations, and Japan's Yakushima Forest. Many of his recordings have been used for museum sound installations. Dunn has consistently sought to bridge the gap between art and science. He edited the International Synergy Journal, for the art-meets-science International Synergy Institute, for several years. An apprentice of composer/multi-instrumentalist Henry Partch, serving as assistant in Partch's ensemble from 1970 to 1974. Dunn's early solo recordings, from 1973 until 1985, were compiled on the CD Music, Language And Environment: Environmental Sound Works.
