The E-MEX Ensemble was founded in 1999 by six musicians from Cologne and the Ruhr in western Germany. Since then the group has rapidly made a name for itself becoming North Rhine Westphalia’s preeminent freelance new music ensemble. E-MEX has received wide acclaim for its recent concert tours in China, South Korea, Chile and the US. The numerous works that the ensemble has commissioned and the many world premieres they have been entrusted with testify to the impressive range of these musicians, as do the large number recordings for CDs and radio broadcasts. A key component of the E-MEX’s work involves the regular collaboration with composers from the region, where the ensemble’s tireless commitment to try to reach new audiences by exploring unconventional way of presenting new music has served as a vital source of inspiration. Many of E-MEX’s concerts seek to create programmatic connections with visual arts, theater, dance, literature, performance art or multimedia works. With a core ensemble of ten musicians, E-MEX has grown to become a renowned ensemble with its own unique musical personality.
