Stavanger born pianist Eivind Austad formed his trio while being a student at the Jazz department in the music conservatory in Trondheim in the late 1990’s. After moving to Bergen and establishing himself as a freelance musician the trio found its current lineup in 2013 with bass player Magne Thormodsæter and drummer Håkon Mjåset Johansen. Their debut album, “Moving” released in 2016 on the German label Ozella, got them many great reviews for their music which has a unique blend of influences from classical, gospel, r&b, jazz and folk music. Among the highlights was a version of the late David Bowie’s iconic song “Life on Mars”. “... during its 15-year existence they have developed a distinct voice largely beyond the scope of national and international scrutiny. All his mistakes and wrong turning that mark the inevitable path of a true artist have been done in relative privacy, and his style, both mature and fully-formed, is revealed here.” - Stuart Nicholson, Jazzwise Their second album, “Northbound”, was released in 2019 on Losen Records and recieved numerous great reviews. On this album they were further exploring more of Austad’s lyrical and melodic compositions. Their third album, “Live in Oslo», was released in December 2022 and was a live recording of a concert they played in Oslo in october 2020 just in between two Covid lockdowns. They just released album «Explore» in november 2024 on Losen Records. https://www.facebook.com/eivindaustadtrio/
