Biography

At the age of eighteen Lasceux was already an organist in the village of Chevreuse. Later he went to Paris and studied with Charles Noblet the harpsichordist of the Opera. He held the position of an extra organist to Claude-Nicholas Ingrain at St Etienne-du-Mont and simultaneously held organist posts with Mathurins, St Aure, Minimes de Place Royale, the College de Navarre and Seminaire S Magliore. When the Revolution occurred he lost most of his positions but maintained himself by playing for The Theophilanthropists. Lasceux resumed his position at St Etinne in 1803 where he was known for his improvisatory technique and virtuosity. The genres in which he composed included comic operas, keyboard sonatas with accompaniment, and arrangements of popular songs for the keyboard. Amateurs admired his work. ~ Keith Johnson, Rovi
