Biography

" Luigi Porto crafts incredibly striking atmospheres" (Stuart Maconie) "Oh my, oh my! I've never heard anything like that! It's abstract, hypnotizing, absolutely unique!" (Angelo Badalamenti) Born in Italy in 1981, Luigi Porto has a music production that spans from rock, experimental electronics, electroacoustic works, to orchestral, film music and opera. Since 2007, he releases albums under his own name. His most recent album is Tell Uric (2021, Respirano Records/La Lumaca Dischi). Before, there has been Scimmie (2014, Cineploit/Snowdonia), a soundtrack to a lost movie by Romano Scavolini, who was welcomed as one of the best albums of 2014 by several Italian magazines. In 2023 he founded the band Manicburg in New York City with Raymond J. Lustig, and in the past has been a core member to the Italian band Maisie, with whom he toured intensively playing guitar, bass and synths. In the early 2000's he was the man behind appleyard College, under which he released a few compilations and one album, "Look At Me" (Cold Current Prod./Masterpiece), that has recently been made available on streaming platforms after 18 years. Besides having authored a number of audio/visual and sound installations, Luigi is a film sound designer and founded in New York the company Respirano, that includes a record label (Respirano Records) and a boutique film sound studio. www.luigiporto.com
