Biography

This popular Irish band singer joined Joe Loss, the leader of one of Britain’s most enduring dance bands, for a trial period of two weeks, and stayed for 15 years during the 40s and 50s. One of the many who benefited from Loss’ policy of generously featuring his vocalists, Brennan was voted the Top Girl Singer in the New Musical Express annual poll. Her records with Loss, on several of which she was accompanied by his vocal quintet, the Loss Chords, included ‘Tulips And Heather’, ‘Then I’ll Be There’, ‘Somewhere Along The Way’, ‘The Isle Of Innisfree’, ‘Why Don’t You Believe Me?’, ‘Got You On My Mind’ (with the Kordites), ‘Seven Lonely Days’ and ‘The Spinning Wheel’. Under her own name, in the 50s, she released several cover versions of hits such as Edith Piaf’s ‘If You Love Me - I Won’t Care (Hymn A L’Amour)’, ‘Let Me Go, Lover’ (which was successful for several artists, including Joan Weber, Dean Martin and Teresa Brewer), and Don Cherry’s ‘Band Of Gold’. In 1961 she had a UK Top 40 hit of her own with ‘Tall Dark Stranger’.
