Biography

Swiss-born pianist Oliver Schnyder studied with Emmy Henz -Diémand, Homero Francesch, Ruth Laredo (New York) and Leon Fleisher (Baltimore). After winning the grand prize at the Pembaur Competition in Berne (1999), he gave successful débuts at the Kennedy Center of the Performing Arts, Washington DC (2000), and with the Tonhalle Orchestra under David Zinman. Since then he has appeared in most of the leading concert halls of Europe, North America and Asia and at the major European music festivals. He performs with such orchestras as Academy of Saint Martin in the Fields, the Baltimore SO, the Danish National SO, the Philharmonia (London), the Tchaikovsky SO (Moscow), the West German RSO (Cologne) and with all the leading Swiss symphony and chamber orchestras under conductors of the stature of Ivor Bolton, Semyon Bychkov, Vladimir Fedoseyev, James Gaffigan, Philippe Jordan, Michail Jurowski, Sir Roger Norrington, Mario Venzago and David Zinman. He maintains an international presence with the @OliverSchnyderTrio, together with Andreas Janke (vl) and Benjamin Nyffenegger (vc). He has recorded solo works by Chopin, Schumann and Liszt for Sony Classical, RCA Red Seal and Telos as well as piano concertos by Haydn, Mozart, the complete concertos by Mendelssohn and Beethoven and the complete piano trios of Beethoven, Schubert and Brahms with the Oliver Schnyder Trio.
