Biography

Haircut 100 burst youthfully onto the scene in 1981 and the post-punk pop world was primed for their innovative, funky and uplifting sound. The A&R department at Arista Records were so excited by the band, they signed them on the spot. The first single, “Favourite Shirts (Boy Meets Girl)” rocketed to No. 4 in the UK charts. The following year saw the release of their platinum selling debut, Pelican West, and three more Top 10 singles, “Love Plus One”, “Fantastic Day” and “Nobody’s Fool”. When the band split in 1983, Nick spread his wings to follow a solo career. His debut album North Of A Miracle, recorded with Beatles engineer Geoff Emerick, went gold and added two more Top 10 singles to his repertoire “Whistle Down The Wind” and "Blue Hat For A Blue Day". Finishing out the 80s with Postcards From Home and I Love You Avenue, Nick signed to Epic Records for his fourth album, From Monday to Sunday, which saw further UK and US hit singles “Kite” and “He Doesn’t Love You Like I Do” and tours with Belly, Lemonheads, Therapy? and Mazzy Star. 1995 came with the release of Tangled and even more hits like “Rollerblade and “The World”. Heyward then signed to the cult Brit-pop label Creation in 1997 and they brought us The Apple Bed, with gems like “Today” and “Stars In Her Eyes”. With across the board critical acclaim, Woodland Echoes, Nick's most recent album (2017) entered the UK independent charts at no. 4 and he was hailed as "a classic pop songwriter back at his very best”.
