Biography

Paper Tiger began in a bedroom in suburban Wolverhampton: music-obsessed teenagers comparing notes on African funk compilations, Japanese animation, soundsystem culture, apocalyptic space-rap and Miles Davis’ little-known collaboration with Sting. Now based in Leeds and London, between them they have heaps of musical experience and knowledge from which to draw – a seamless blend of electronic wizardry and good old-fashioned jazz chops; squiggly space-synths and fidgety funk; Beats, Rhymes And Life. Their live shows have garnered praise from people across the board and seen them share stages with Amon Tobin, Quantic, Jaga Jazzist, Nightmares On Wax, Bonobo, Dam Funk, Daedelus and Gaslamp Killer to name a few. Their productions have seen collaborations with Homeboy Sandman, Infinite Livez and Foreign Beggars, and airplay on Radio 1, 6 Music, 1xtra, Rinse FM and more, plus support from Mixmag, The Wire, Q, FACT, Jamie xx, Coldcut, Slugabed, Mr Scruff, Alex Nut and more. Their debut album, Laptop Suntan, was released in 2013 with Wah Wah 45s. An accompanying remix album, Sultan Ant Pop, followed at the end of 2014, featuring contributions from Werkha, LV, Murder He Wrote, Memotone and more. Their 2nd record, Blast Off, was released in May 2016. It features Shafiq Husayn, Pyramid Vritra, Chester Watson, Sarah Williams White and was mastered by LA beat-scene lynchpin Daddy Kev, Grammy-nominated for his work with Flying Lotus and Kendrick Lamar.
