Malthus [b. Samuel Lindblad], is an artist from Lancashire, North-West England. Malthus' sound references avant-pop, alternative RnB, ambient electronic, electronic dance and neoclassical. He credits his working-class upbringing, rave culture and primitivism as strong reference points for both his audio and visual work - utilising a cross-genre approach to composition, hallucinogenic cinematography and disjointed movement direction to construct a surreal audio-visual world. CONVULSIONS [2023] saw the artist self-direct and choreograph a visual EP film in which Malthus features as the protagonist. Exploring cycles of repetitive behaviour, addiction and loss, the acclaimed visual EP (co-produced by the artist’s label partner Sid Quirk) flips orchestral and electronic arrangements into soulful, club-ready and ambient pieces. The release was followed by a string of shows in the UK, France and Germany, with the final show an immersive headline performance at FOLD London’s in-house arts programme, FuturShock. The last years also saw Malthus feature on the BBC6 “400 BLACK DOGS” mix by Rainy Miller, and the creation of fashion scores for Heliot Emil, Charles Jeffrey, and Armani. He worked as the executive producer and co-writer of mercedes 666 debut EP “Error_666", released the record under his Littledoom imprint, and directed a series of fashion films premiered in London, Berlin and Tokyo.
