Graeme Gengras is a keyboard player and producer currently based in New York City. His sound is a fusion of his eclectic tastes spanning jazz, hip-hop, R&B, funk and electronic music. Raised in Maine by a family of music lovers, he took to piano at an early age and began making beats and learning about the recording process as a high schooler. During his time at Skidmore College in upstate New York, a series of masterclasses by world-class jazz artists like Aaron Parks and Robert Glasper as well as the encouragement of his mentors inspired him to pursue his passion for music. Drawing from beatmakers such as Flying Lotus and Karriem Riggins, 1970s jazz fusion and more modern musicians such as Christian Scott, Graeme aims to find common ground between the worlds of hip-hop production and organic improvised music. His newest album “Rosetta Stone,” is the realization of this idea, recorded at the Bunker Studio in Brooklyn with a band of like-minded players and then infused with the sound of Graeme’s production, straddling the line between live and sampled music.
