Biography

The kaleidoscopic career multidiscipline sound artist and educator Neel Dhorajiwala aka Dwala has seen him making soca in Trinidad with Kes, recording jazz in Paris with acclaimed trumpeteer Abram Wilson, tracking vocals for afrobeat artists in Lagos, Nigeria, producing music for a cultural music exchange program in Havana, Cuba, whilst still finding time to be a main writer for the Rockschool Musical Education Syllabus and producing exam content for Academy of Rock (Singapore).   Growing up with a rich East African-Indian heritage in London, the multicultural melting pot laid a great sonic foundation as Dwala etched his musical journey from his early band days laying down drum grooves on analogue tape all the way to his future island sound through his solo release ‘Flavours’ - a body of work that compels the listener to want to move to sunnier climes.    Neel has always had a knack for transporting a listener to wherever and whenever in time and space he wanted them to be, and as such he has become an in demand musician in multiple time zones.   With a 20 year career, credits to his name include working with greats such as Jazzie B (Soul II Soul), Gilles Peterson, Phil Asher, and Abram Wilson. More recently, he has produced music & vocals for various internationally acclaimed Caribbean artists including Kes, Beenie Man, Popcaan, Busy Signal, Konshens, Keznamdi, and Sizzla.
