Biography

Paul Amitai is a New York based musician who has performed internationally and shared the stage with legends such as Run–D.M.C. and The Specials.
Amitai started out as the lead singer and guitarist of The Pacers, whose full-length album, Strictly For Lovers, was produced by Chris Dowd of Fishbone.
Amitai began performing as a solo artist in the late 90s, and collaborated live with Collections Of Colonies Of Bees (members of Volcano Choir) and was a vocalist on the album, Mirrors for Eyes, by Caural. In the mid-late 2000s, he also performed widely alongside VJs in NYC's vibrant live audiovisual scene.
Demonstrating his multi-instrumental abilities as a composer and producer, Amitai's solo debut, River of Shadows, was released in 2006 followed by Luminent Sky, recorded and mixed in Frankfurt in 2011. Amitai returned in 2013 with an experimental ambient release, In Between States, launched in conjunction with a video art installation he exhibited at Eyebeam in New York.
Paul Amitai's album from 2021, In the Darkness There Is Light That No One Can See, pushed the boundaries even further, with all of the music created using just his voice. This work was the culmination of more than two decades of experimentation and marked an exciting new sonic direction that continued on Ask the Ages, a song-by-song, vocals-only reimagining of Sonny Sharrock’s avant-jazz classic, Ask The Ages.
