Biography

Affiliated with the band Why? and the Anticon label collective, Josiah Wolf is an indie pop multi-instrumentalist who made his solo album debut with Jet Lag in 2010. Born in Cincinnati, OH, he learned to play drums at age nine from his father, a rabbi, and studied music at the University of Cincinnati. In 2003 he made his solo recording debut with The Josiah EP, a lo-fi release inspired by his brother Jonathan. Better-known as Yoni, younger brother Jonathan was making his full-length album debut as Why? around this time with Oaklandazulasylum (2003). In light of that album's success, Josiah moved out west and joined the Why? lineup, which expanded from a solo project to a quartet. He made his debut as the band's drummer on second album Elephant Eyelash (2005). He also appeared on the successive albums Alopecia (2008) and Eskimo Snow (2009). Wolf then made his full-length solo debut with the psychedelic pop album Jet Lag (2010). Recorded in a cottage in the woods and released on Anticon, Jet Lag showcases him on his own as a singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. At the same time, Wolf remained a member of Why? and opened for the band on its 2010 tour. ~ Jason Birchmeier, Rovi
