Formed by producer Shannon Fields, Leverage Models make music that, with each release, seems to increasingly walk a tightrope between convulsively pleasurable, densely woven music, and words that evoke the complicated and dark things that humans do to themselves. Multi-layered nostalgic, crystalline pop sounds are seductively arranged around impressionistic stories that touch the troubling public and private lives of its characters. Following the debut LP, Fields’ voice (which often wobbles on unhinged moments of mania and possession), is balanced with the addition of Tiny Hazard’s Alena Spanger, who brings a dream-logic depth, grace and precision to the Models’ world. Leverage Models’ initial releases (feat. among others, Sharon Van Etten, and members of Destroyer, DIANA, & The War On Drugs) have received acclaim from The Village Voice, The Guardian, The New Yorker, Spin, PopMatters, Paste Magazine, Other Music, Vogue, and Pitchfork (the latter giving the record an unusually high 8.2, remarking that "you could spend a month mapping the parts written into these three-minute tunes and still find something new on the next listen"). The band’s live performances (sharing stages across North America with Son Lux, Helado Negro, Sinkane, Escort, and others) have been noted for their euphoric “tent-revival fury”.
