Biography

Dan Gillespie Sells is a British singer/songwriter and composer known for fronting English pop/rock band the Feeling. Sells became well-known for delivering bright, summer-laden melodies and passionate vocals on popular tracks such as "Fill My Little World" from their 2006 debut LP, Twelve Stops and Home, and disco-infused stompers such as "I Thought It Was Over" from their 2008 sophomore effort, Join with Us. Sells was born and raised in London and attended the Ashmole secondary school in Southgate, where he studied alongside S Club 7's Rachel Stevens and Amy Winehouse before going on to the BRIT School for Performing Arts and Technology in Croydon. While there, he met fellow student and bass guitarist Richard Jones in 1995 before meeting future bandmates drummer Paul Stewart, guitarist Kevin Jeremiah, and Kevin's brother Ciaran, who played keys. The quintet members became good friends and spent the next several years working as session musicians, eventually forming the covers band Superfly. They later changed their name to the Feeling and performed at industry showcases, securing a deal with Island Records, which released their debut, Twelve Stops and Home, in mid-2006; they promoted the record with a U.K. and European tour. Sells and the Feeling returned with their sophomore effort, Join with Us, in 2008 and followed with 2011's Together We Were Made, 2013's Boy Cried Wolf, and their self-titled LP in 2016. In between recording and touring with the Feeling, Sells stayed busy with other creative endeavors. In 2007, he earned a co-writer credit on Sophie Ellis-Bextor's third record, Trip the Light Fantastic, and appeared on the songs "Love Is Here" and "Only One." In 2008 he wrote the theme tune for the BBC comedy series Beautiful People with producer Ian Masterson (Kylie Minogue, Girls Aloud). He and the Feeling also covered "She's Gone" by Daryl Hall & John Oates for the show. After 2010, Sells began writing music for theater, and in 2014 he collaborated with dance choreographer Javier de Frutos for the ballet piece "3 with D," which debuted at the London Coliseum. In 2017, Sells composed the music for Everybody's Talking About Jamie, a musical that opened in Sheffield before landing a run at the West End's Apollo Theatre in November of that year. A soundtrack album for the show was released that Christmas and featured vocals from English pop artist Betty Boo and Sophie Ellis-Bextor. ~ Rob Wacey, Rovi
