Talent can be enigmatic. Some would argue that it’s given at birth, others would say it’s the result of hard work and determination in the face of great obstacles. People who’ve listened to OG Blak would say both assessments are the truth. Hailing from Kinston, NC and now calling Charlotte, NC home, OG Blak has been honing his musical skills since ten years old. He was surrounded by firsthand musical influences by way of his cousins who were great lyricists in their own right. They ensured he understood the classics that would also add to his musical palette, such as 2Pac, Nas, Scarface and other Golden Era legends. When asked about why he chose Hip Hop as his preferred method of expression, OG Blak responded simply by saying: “I looked up to rappers as philosophers, street philosophers if you will. I was enamored with the art of it all. The bars, flow, concepts, punchlines and storytelling. I fell in love with the idea that I could use those same principles to tell my own story. I wanted to create an outlet for those who felt left behind. That’s what I represent. I am the voice of the voiceless. I give hope to the hopeless.
