The imKENNETHY project tells a story of ongoing self-actualization – testing the boundaries of what makes you "you." A first-generation Taiwanese American that grew up in the Chicago suburbs listening to Kanye West, Chance the Rapper, and Chief Keef on local radio stations, who moved to Southern California, where his college town of Isla Vista was captured by his old-school rap flows, sample chops, and eclectic production on 50k+ streamed single Paris & bodies of work such as Serendipity. More than anything, the 21 year old self-produced artist recognizes how limiting and contradictory even a description such as this bio is to any human's endlessly complex identity. And also acknowledges the narcissistic and pretentious nature of writing about himself in the third person using big, smart-sounding words. His first two singles of 2024, Don't Matter & Nara Dreamland, have an ear-candy quality to them and make a compelling attempt to combine the groovy, upbeat production styles of Kaytranada and Channel Tres with 90s style lyrical rap flows.
