Biography

Passionate, dedicated Rwandan Canadian singer-songwriter and showcases a unique blend of Afro-blues, jazz, soul, and Rwandan folk music. Empress Nyiringango is a mother of two beautiful daughters and has a master’s degree in Education earned in 2020 at the University of Ottawa, in Canada. Her musical journey began in Rwanda at the age of 18, while attending High School where she sang at several events and in the choir. Devasted by the horrible crimes against the Tutsi in 1994, she composed her first song, Agahinda which was produced and released in 2004. She further released more songs like Wanalia (They cry), Umurage Ukwiriye u Rwanda (Legacy for Rwanda), Amahoro I Rwanda (Peace in Rwanda) just to name a few. Empress Nyiringango has performed in Rwanda, Egypt, Kenya, Congo, and Canada. In the spring of 2007, She toured with the Izuba Theatre group in five Canadian cities to sing her songs which had been integrated into a play "Wipe your tears and stand up" written by a Rwandan Canadian writer, Rurangwa Jean Marie Vianney. She has also participated in various musical projects including the one that was organized by Record Runner Rehearsal Studio and GPM Enterprise in 2017. She headlined the Women Art festival at the Arts Gallery in 2019 and the Cultural Pluralism in the Arts Movement Ontario Showcase at Parkdale Park in 2021. Empress Nyiringango released her debut album "Resilience in 2016, and her EP in 2019. Her second album is set to be released early next year (2022).
