Biography

Rock & roll singer/songwriter Grey Revell grew up in Los Angeles, but moved to New York in early 1998 in search of the old-time vibe of the Greenwich Village scene. With his sense of classic-style songcraft, Revell began making a name for himself in the clubs of Alphabet City, and formed a backing band called Cinema Fantastic in early 1999. His first album, Midnight Eye, was released in the spring of that year, taking a stripped-down, bare-bones production approach with his punk- and folk-inflected acoustic songs. His harder-rocking, full-band sound was showcased on the follow-up, Crazy Like an Ambush, which appeared at the end of 1999. His third album, 2000's The Green Train, blended those two approaches, and received his best local reviews yet; it also helped land him a slot in the first Coke-sponsored New Music Awards contest the following year. ~ Steve Huey, Rovi
