“Catchy, Clean, and Timeless” - SMURKS’s response when asked to describe his music. SMURKS ( Steve Johnson) of Sierra Vista, AZ, a small town in Southern Arizona, grew up in Northern California. He transplanted to the small dessert town in early 2005. Beginning his high school career and his musical journey. SMURKS started off in a small local band Alternative/Emo band (Hyacinth). Falling victim to Sex, Drugs, & Rock n’ Roll. After leaving AZ to get clean in California, SMURKS returned to Sierra Vista and joined another local Post- Hardcore band (I, the Creation) with high school friends. Although his passion for music was being fulfilled, SMURKS knew that he had higher ambitions in music. He left the band shortly after and began learning to Record, Produce, Mix/Master on his own. Building his studio as well as his technical skills. SMURKS began writing/recording in Jan of 2017. He made it a point to produce music that could be played on the radio or at clubs. To produce commercially successful songs that could be marketed to a massive audience and be accepted world wide. He did just that. SMURKS released “Persona”, an 11 track debut album, featuring some of Sierra Vista’s most promising artists, in Jan 2018. A full year of writing, recording, experiencing, adapting, learning and growing as an artist and as an individual. SMURKS is a rising artist you should keep an eye on.
