Foster The Prankster has been a quiet torch-bearer on the indie hip-hop scene for over 15 years. The Jersey native, formerly known as Vibes, made his first spark in the days of the major hip-hop blogs, with mixtapes featured by some of the biggest blogs of the time. After becoming disillusioned by the industry process and walking away from an offer for a six-figure recording deal in 2012, Foster gained grassroots acclaim with the 2015 album, Kings Highway and its follow-up, Free Lunch: A Microtape. Hungry to push the boundaries of hip-hop and produce sample-free music with live instrumentation, Foster formed the live band, Foster & The Pranksters, in 2018. The band’s first official single, Think Me A Fool, became a cult hit, gaining over 100,000 streams on Spotify. Foster & The Pranksters released two EP’s, titled “La Honda” and “The Acid Test,” which also gained a cult following. In late-2019, due to creative differences, Foster & The Pranksters split. The band’s slated debut album, “Further,” was never completed and Foster essentially disappeared from social media and public performances. Foster’s latest (and reportedly, final) release, Merry Prankster, breaks his silence with the force of a true underdog artist at the height of his powers. Reuniting with old friend and producer, Prolific (formerly of Trackfiends), Foster The Prankster paints a visceral, raw, unsettling, thought-provoking and beautiful portrait of the American experience in the 21st century.
