Biography

The Swiss-based band Lariba, from Cuban Roots, presents an original show where powerful rap lyrics meet the most traditional form of Cuban music, Cuban son, and the strength of Latin rhythms such as salsa or timba get along with the elegance of the Brazilian sounds. A colorful and diverse sound that surprises and stays with you in each song, due to the musical contrast determined by the nationality of its 7 members: Cuba, Switzerland, Italy, Brazil and England. It all converges in the fusion of Hip-Hop, Reggae, Jazz and Timba with Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and English lines. This is why Lariba is, definitely, an excellent example of fusion music, coming spontaneously out of its 7 members. The band’s first album “Como lo ves” (Ventilador Music, 2009) was a manifest of their intention of mixing Cuban son with rap music. In 2014 the band published their second work “Walking Pa’lante”. In this album, Lariba uses its experiences from touring around Europe to record a more global work transporting us to a global party. Lariba played in Germany, France, Switzerland and Spain, among many other countries, being part of many festivals like Weltnacht, Rosenfestival, Caliente!, Rencontres et Racines, Barrejant and even played in some of those along with bands like Calle13, Orishas, etc. Lariba is on its way to become one of the most important Latin music bands in Europe.
