Lavell Jones grew up in the border city of El Paso, Texas. At a young age, his interests included writing short plays, stories, and poems. At the age of 7 he taught himself to fluently play the drums, and then the piano. Lavell then shifted his focus to writing and playing music. After graduating high school, Lavell made his introduction to the music scene by releasing his first two independent projects - No More Shenanigans [2011] and SEARCHING… [2013] Praise from these projects earned Jones opportunities to perform at festivals including SXSW, Warped Tour, and Neon Desert. He was also invited to speak and perform at New Mexico State University and Southwest University. In 2018 Lavell released the concept album MEMENTO which quickly became his most popular body of work, receiving praise from both fans and critics alike. Blending creative flows, potent storytelling and live instrumentation, MEMENTO introduced Lavell Jones to a whole new audience. Including the Live Band in his performances distinguished Lavell as an artist who wouldn’t be easily categorized by just one genre. This can be seen in their episode on the live concert video series Midnight Sessions in 2019. Lavell’s latest album LONG STORY SHORT is a culmination of all the elements that make Lavell, Lavell. Dynamic lyricism, cinematic interludes and diverse instrumentation all combine to create his most ambitious project yet.
