Biography

Initially rising to fame as a member of the J-pop superstar duo KinKi Kids, a project of the famous Johnny's agency, the Nara-born Tsuyoshi Domoto soon made his name as a TV actor and began a solo music career that went from a sporadic side project to more or less permanent activity. His TV debut, in fact, happened before the musical one -- he played in some dramas in 1994, three years before KK's first album, and was at his most active as an actor in the mid-'90s -- but it was the Johnny's band that really made him famous. However, KinKi Kids didn't take all of his time, and in 2002 Domoto had his first solo album, Rosso e Azzurro, out, writing the music and lyrics himself. It topped the charts and shifted over 200,000 units, same as its follow-up, [sí:], did in 2004. However, it was only in 2006 that Domoto began a proper solo project, quitting acting altogether and performing and recording under the name of Endlicheri Endlicheri (a type of African fish) without formally leaving KinKi Kids; the two Endlicheri Endlicheri albums that came out in 2006 and 2007 fared well in charts, although not as well as Domoto's first solo records. In 2008 he switched the moniker to 244 ENDLI-x (pronounced "Tsuyoshi Endlix") and released I and Ai, and in 2009 he dropped the cumbersome alias and recorded Bigaku My Beautiful Sky simply as Tsuyoshi. In 2008 he also returned to TV, starring in the drama 33pun Tantei. ~ Alexey Eremenko, Rovi
