Biography

Norwegian multifaceted artist Andre Borgen started out as a drummer in junior high school and he soon switched to guitar and vocals in the band Yoreyolk, a trio that were inspired by Sonic Youth, Pavement, Polvo, God Machine and the likes. Locally in the small town of Heddal there wasn’t much of a scene except for a few “grunge” and skate punk bands, and Yoreyolk played a more weird or arty kind of rock with loose structure and alternate tunings. At the same time Borgen made electronic music by himself handing out tapes to friends who labeled it “Borgen-Trance”. An example of this can be heard with the track Aiibaka.
He played drums for some years in the post rock band Solune. Studies in art and literature took him to Oslo where he gradually became involved in the city’s thriving noise and improv scene of the early 2000’s.
Around 2000 he released an lofi-rock EP as Clearsnare, in 2003 the electronic/glitch album @Barokken (1600 - 1750) and in 2009 his first solo album as Andre Borgen ‘Staying Old’. After 2012’s album on Metronomicon Audio and a few self released albums he signed with Sheep Chase Records for the album ‘Hands and Feet’ in 2018. In 2022 Borgen is planning to release a compilation of unreleased tracks from 2009-2010 on Metronomicon Audio and an album of new material on Sheep Chase Records.
