FM Belfast was created as a studio project in 2005 by the couple Árni Rúnar Hlöðversson and Lóa Hlín Hjálmtýsdóttir. They made their first track Pump as a christmas present for friends, a cover song of Technotronic’s Pump up the jam. In the summer of 2006 they had their first show in a cave in the small town of Gjógv in the Faroe Islands. Later that year, Örvar Þóreyjarson(Múm) and Árni Vilhjálmsson joined FM Belfast and the band officially turned into a live band. Since 2008 they’ve traveled all over and played shows and festivals in Europe, Japan, USA and Australia. Egill Eyjólfsson, Björn Kristjánsson(Borko) and Ívar Pétur Kjartansson(Míri) joined in 2010 and 2013 and Sveinbjörn Thorarensen(Hermigervill) joined in 2015. Árni Vilhjálmsson left the band in 2015 but the other seven members remain and are sometimes joined on stage by musicians like Eiríkur Orri(Múm, Sigurrós) and other talented friends. FM Belfast has released 4 studio albums and several singles and collaborated with Kasper Björke, Prins Póló and Jóhann Helgason. One of the band’s most popular song Underwear was the first music video project for Daniel Scheinert and Dan Kwan who later famously directed the Academy award winning film Everything Everywhere All once.
