Shameel was introduced to the Sri Lankan Tamil music industry during 2004/2005. His first song ‘Kanavin Karuvil’ went on to become a super hit, and became known to all Tamil radio listeners, and also an anthem for the Tamil youth of Sri Lanka. ‘Kanavin Karuvil’ broke Sri Lankan Tamil music records by topping the charts for several weeks. After the success of this song Shameel went on to release songs that were of the same quality standard of an Indian cinema song. Many believed that they were indeed from the Indian cinema. His goal in life though was to create his own identity and to capture the hearts of Sri Lankan through his own style of music. Shameel has worked with Sri Lanka's prestigious Sarasaviya Awards Winning Director Nishantha Pradeep; also he has won 12 National Awards from 2014 Onwards for Best Music Composer, Best Lyricist, Best Singer, Best Sound Designer & Best Album.
