Biography

Since his introduction to the Detroit music community, J. Hill has served up soulful melodies mixed with engaging content and bar-far-bar flow. His first solo album, They Want Street Fame was released in 2004 and still stands as one of the city’s best rap debuts. Since, J. Hill collaborated with artists such as Obie Trice, Guilty Simpson, MC Breed, Trick Trick, Big Herk, Melanie Rutherford and the late great Big Proof to name a few. Hill has always held his own next to any artists and continues to impress. The multi-faceted writer and producer is returning to release a new solo album, February 14th. “This album is dedicated specifically to issues dealing with relationships,” Hill explains, “Nothing is off limits as everything is put on the table in the form of bars and beats.” Priding himself on the art of storytelling and addressing real life issues in his music, J.Hill has always done his part to paint the music landscape with much-needed flavor and variety. In September of 2019, J. Hill produced and directed a visually captivating and graphic video for his single, he “Y.B.M (Young Black Male).” The video showcased Hill’s rising cinematic prowess. J.Hill is in pre-production of two full-length feature films, #Blocks and 13th Grade. Along with another full-length album tentatively scheduled for the 3rd quarter of 2020, J.Hill is planning to recapture the spotlight providing quality music and entertainment under his new umbrella New Block Entertainment.
