Lylah Maryah, a Los Angeles native, grew up with a love for music and dance. Even though Lylah was alienated for her creativity and love for the arts she sang in the school choir anyway. In High school she trained vocally but ended up becoming so anxious and self conscious she couldn't sing without cracking. After graduating, Lylah took vocal lessons but couldn't get over her stage fright and gave up her dream of singing. A few years later, Lylah went through emotional hardships, and to destress she started singing again after coming across a singing app. "It was my safe haven, I could sing alone in my room, perform and let my emotions out, if I messed up I would just try it again." Lylah realized her vocal range had grown along with her confidence. Eventually Lylah became confident enough to venture into the real karaoke world and stumbled upon Roscoe's, a local karaoke bar. "I went alone and was TERRIFIED. I gave myself a fake name to take the pressure away, but the thing that surprised me the most was that I sang without cracking! I suppose I did okay because when I came back they remembered my name, Lylah." Soon after Lylah reached out to her uncle, who has significant musical knowledge, to further her training. After working with her uncle for almost a year Magnus Gunnarson heard her sing at Roscoe's and asked if she was interested in collaborating. "I couldn't believe it. I couldn't say YES quick enough. I was ready to pursue my dream and I wasn't afraid anymore."
