Merging the retro with the modern, Luke J Barrett is the Duke of Power Pop. Singer-Songwriter / Bassist from South London, now based in Brighton, is on a journey to bring the 60s style pop rock to current day. Known for playing a certain The Monkees song, featured in the animated movie Shrek, Barrett fills his solo performances with not only powerful pop classics, but catchy up-beat originals - including "The Last Little Dance ". Fascinated by the sounds of The Beach Boys, The Lovin' Spoonful, The Bangles and The Beatles, Barrett reimagines the groovy music for the modern era. Not only does he emulate the joy of the 1960s, but combines it with the sounds of the 2000s with artists like McBusted , blink-182 and Katy Perry. Barrett has primarily been a bassist since 2016, and in recent years has become a session bassist for a handful of live and recording bands. It was in 2019 Barrett, then known as bluemicearmy, started to dabble in a solo project, eventually releasing a collection of demos from lockdown 2020 in March of that year. After moving to Brighton in late 2020, Barrett focused on his bass playing in multiple short-lived bands and put a break on his solo works. With a rebrand in early 2022, the bluemicearmy name was dropped in favour of Luke J Barrett, in time for the release of the psychedelic pop single “The Butterfly Song ” and the EP “Dystopian Utopia ”.
