Hailing from Gulfport, Mississippi, Jona Hope has been making "lofi-ambient-bedroom-pop" under the moniker if i die in mississippi since 2015. starting as a solo/acoustic-open-mic-night project, 'if i die' began performing intimate covers among songs of their own. they've since become known for their covers of artists like Modern Baseball, and Alex G. Living in and out of Hattiesburg, MS, if i die released their debut ep "sweetheart" in early 2016, which caught the attention of Filip Zemcik, founder of Z-Tapes Records, a Slovak/French lo-fi bedroom pop label; known for artists such as: Euphoria Again, Fog Lake, Field Medic, orchid mantis, and pickle darling, among many others. After a move to Los Angeles, and with the help of Filip and Z-Tapes, if i die in mississppi followed up with two fairly well-received releases: 2016's "artless," and 2018's "holographic heartache." In 2021, if i die in mississippi released their final tape, "before i leave," a collection of new and old material, b-sides and covers, as a farewell to Z-Tapes and the project's moniker. Jona currently resides in Austin, TX and is working on new music endeavors.
