Biography

Greeen Linez is a collaboration between Chris Greenberg (from the band Hong Kong In The 60s ) and Matt Lyne (aka A Taut Line, co-founder of the Diskotopia label). The project initially began in 2011 with the aim of combining the 90s dance music and R&B that soundtracked Chris and Matt’s childhoods with the 70s/80s jazz-funk and synthesizer soundtracks that they obsessed over in their teens and 20s. All of this was filtered through the cocktail of retro pop, fusion and supermarket muzak that Matt had been exposed to since moving to Japan in 2005. Their debut album Things That Fade was released in summer 2012 and the LP and its single Hibiscus Pacific proved particularly popular in vaporwave and Japanese city pop circles. On their two follow-up albums, Izu King Street (2014) and The Calm (2015), they further honed and extended their sound, incorporating halcyon rave and jungle influences into their glossy brand of elevator-boogie. For an extensive period of time following The Calm, shifting life events took the duo away from working together on music, but they returned to writing and producing with renewed motivation in 2018, producing what would become 2019's Strange Energy. Now, as 2021 draws to a close, Greeen Linez return with the expansive double album Secrets of Dawn, a concerted effort to rediscover the joy, beauty, and melody that have been in such short supply worldwide in the two years since their last release.
