Biography

earthtribes origins came from the U.K. club scene in the 90's, launching significant nights, Sitarfunk, Anokha, Outcaste, Swaraj, Eaststatic, Akaash, Club Indus, Aahtma and Shaanti. They then toured globally and collaborated with countless artists including violinist, Chandru (Bollywood Strings), guitarist, Aziz Ibrahim, percussionist, Bhavani Shankar, vocalist, Shahin Badar (The Prodigy’s Smack My Bitch Up), sitarist, Niladri Kumar, and remixing the late Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan (Real World Recordings). All earthtribe recorded works, released to date, are actually collaborations between the founder Coco Varma & original member – Sanjeve Rupal. The live sound system also includes Sanjay Varma & MC Daddy E. Founder - Coco Varma was born in India & raised in London. Always defying genre categorisation from the outset he has been a pioneer of significant artistic defining periods in global music, since the mid-late 80’s. From infamous UK record label Street Sounds where he co-produced the first British Hip Hop album to be made outside the United States, Faze One Heroes (1987) to remixing artists such as Scott La Rock & KRS 1 of Boogie Down Productions. From there to recording for Profile Records (U.K.) while being a founding member of key underground U.K. act T.A.S. (The Altered States) + the establishment of the cultural movement, that is earthtribe. All components of what is now known as the Asian Underground scene.
