Hailing from Hyattsville, MD, Mylie Durham IV, known to friends and associates as Lee, started on drums in punk and jazz bands in high school and then getting serious with soul/hip hop/Mid-Atlantic funk outfit, The Mighty Heard, which he managed from behind the drum kit for 8 years, playing around the DC area in clubs and major festivals such as the H St Festival. They recorded an album that finally saw the light of day in 2020. Joining The Funk Ark in 2011 gave Lee experience on a few handfuls of national tours and one full length recording, staying with that phenomenal group of musicians for another 6 years. During this time, Growroom Productions was established to promote and release various projects that held Lee's stamp of approval, releasing albums from igloo two, Three Man Soul Machine, and Slanigiro Renguez, among others, as well as Lee's solo debut under the name Honest Lee, taken from the name he had been DJing under since 2008. That album was nominated for a "Wammie" and produced a licensing opportunity for the song 'Island Joint' to be featured in the YouTube/now Netflix series, 'Cobra Kai,' in 2019. Recently, Lee corralled artists from DC’s rich music scene to cover the entire seminal album from Massachusetts based cult rock band, Morphine, ‘Cure for Pain’, resulting in a strong view of DC’s diverse musical offerings. All proceeds from that album were given to the Baltimore-based and nationally focused social justice charity, Public Justice Center.
