Biography

Kamilah Chevel, a product of Pasadena, California, leans into the uncomfortable side of love in her music. Influenced heavily by classic R&B and Soul like D’Angelo, Kamilah is unafraid to sing a soulful run, or add divine harmonies to even the bluntest of her lyrics. The juxtaposition of the two are a unique signature of hers and gives her an edge and sass all her own. Her tone boasts a Vixen quality and her rhythm and flow reveal playful, bouncy elements of rap that makes anyone who hears her want to know more about what she has to say. Having come from a musical family, Kamilah Chevel found her purpose in childhood. She sung at school assemblies, graduation, talent shows, and anywhere she could. In her youth she developed her skills as a writer and has penned every song she has ever sung as a solo artist. Most notably, she is featured as a background vocalist on several of Grammy-nominated singer Charlie “Uncle Charlie” Wilson (The Gap Band) songs, including “There Goes My Baby”, produced by Grammy-nominated producer Gregg Pagani. She also tours as a vocalist for legendary funk group “The Brothers Johnson”, who in the late-seventies were introduced to the world by Quincy Jones. Nia Sioux, a star born from the Lifetime show “Dance Moms”, got her musical start with her single “Star in Your Own Life” – viewed twelve million times – and penned by Kamilah Chevel.
