Kibir La Amlak was first made known to the world as a reggae sound system established by DJ (selector) and producer Jamie ‘JT’ Thomas in 2008. The sound system, with its towering stacks of homemade speakers played all over the UK and Europe with the top acts in the business. The sound system and international DJ sets acted as a springboard for his productions, and with an ever expanding list of titles in the discography, his music has now become a household name in the world of roots and dub. The productions feature some of the cream of the crop reggae artists and musicians, firmly rooted in RasTafari whilst also calling upon an eclectic range of influences and inputs from musicians and artists across the globe. Whether a full symphony of live instrumentation or a minimalist stripped back electronic production, the Kibir La Amlak ‘sound’ is stamped upon every track. A sound that many describe as deeply hypnotic or spiritual. Kibir La Amlak is the founder of Before Zero Records, a videographer and a graphic designer and frequently blends all of these creative outputs to add the characteristic stamp on music videos and LP covers. A lifetime spent between the public sphere of reggae sound system and private realms of the recording studios mixing desk gave birth to a hybrid of both, the live dub show.
