Biography

Sudha Ragunathan is one of India’s foremost Carnatic vocalists. A disciple of the legendary Padma Bhushan awardee Dr. ML Vasanthakumari, Sudha has evolved a style of her own where the soul of her music lies in the dynamism of her presentation, with exceptional motifs and matrices of raga images and swaras making it a quintessential amalgam. . Over 200 compact and video discs that cover a noteworthy range of compositions in various languages and genres of her music have been released. Sudha has the distinction of being the only Carnatic musician second to Bharat Ratna MS Subbulakshmi, to have sung at the United Nations on 2nd October, 2016, the International Day of Non-Violence, 50 years after Bharatratna MS Subbulakshmi’s music did in 1966. The UN Postal department released a postage stamp of the Bharat Ratna and Sudha Ragunathan was presented the first stamp. Louisville, Kentucky (United States) declared 19 May, 2019 as Sudha Ragunathan Day in recognition of her service to the field of arts for the past four decades. Sudha has enthralled packed audience at International Music Festivals and concerts held in the U.S., Canada, UK, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Philippines, Indonesia, The Middle East, Switzerland, Germany, Denmark, France, The Netherlands, Finland, Sweden, Luxembourg, Belgium and Sri Lanka.Her participation in global music festivals are standing examples of the diversity of her music.
