Biography

Based btw Berlin & Istanbul, DJ, producer, curator, queer-activist, İpek İpekçioğlu produces a warm, dynamic & organic interpretation of electronic music melted with the melodramatic sound of Anatolia/Mesopotamia, Turkey, Orient & the Middle East. The Berliner Label Katermukke released her track “Uyan Uyan/Wake up“ was one of the most successful tracks at Beatport. Ipek compiled the 1st remix album of Selda Bağcan and her remix “Gesi Baglari” was released at Majör Müzik, owned by the singer, herself. Souq Records released her Techno track in Farsi with the great Kurdish singer Hani Mojtahedy “Dame Sobh”. Ipek releases also @ Epic Istanbul/Sony Music. Ipek Ipekcioglu received German Record Critics' Award for her Beyond Istanbul Albums @ Trikont and was named as a musical & political "visionary" by the Süddeutsche Zeitung and cited as a representative for “ideologically blinker-free living” by Rolling Stone Magazine. The socially-critical minded producer is an activist and member of female:pressure network and has a strong social-critical agenda related to women, immigrant, queer & gender topics, which she transports into her productions. Ipek has been pushing boundaries within the ethnic & electronic scene & communities for over then two decades. This music and her work have earned her a place as “one of Berlin’s most important cultural contributors” [Zitty Magazine]. She proudly carries the title of "MC of cross-cultural understanding" (Daniel Bax - TAZ).
