Founded in 2013 at the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus, Los Pleneros de la Cresta emerged from the shared passion of a group of students and musicians dedicated to preserving and promoting the plena, one of the most representative musical genres of Puerto Rican culture. Since its inception, the group has been committed to keeping this musical tradition alive, fusing the rich heritage of the plena with contemporary influences to create a unique and vibrant sound. Los Pleneros de la Cresta have taken their music to national stages, including cities such as Orlando, Chicago, Miami, Washington, Maryland and New York. With each performance, they have earned the recognition and admiration of a large audience. The group not only stands out for their energetic and exciting live performances, but also for their commitment to education and community through workshops, educational presentations and community collaborations. Its members work tirelessly to inspire new generations and ensure that plena remains a vital part of Puerto Rico's cultural identity along with and in collaboration with the non-profit organization called Acción Valerosa Inc. Its mission is clear: to share the joy and beauty of Puerto Rican music with the world, creating meaningful experiences that connect people and foster a sense of belonging to the Puerto Rican cultural community.
