Tewz is a Chicago based multi-instrumentalist that started making beats in the mid 90’s with a crate of his dads old rock records and an Akai MPC 2000. He makes moody hip hop instrumentals, breaks, & lo-fi beats. (think stoner Psych Rock meets boom bap Hip Hop.) You can expect a lot of heavy drums, fuzz, and a cloud of ____ smoke. As an avid record digger and music gear collector, Tewz finds inspiration in a studio full of rare funk, world, & outsider private press records, instruments, diy electronics, vintage sequencers, samplers, & analog synthesizers. Tewz self released a very cool looking die-cut picture vinyl in 2012 titled “Helix” (that must be seen to be believed), and a handful of 7” 45 singles on Luna Records (Switzerland) & Heardrums (Michigan). He worked on a 12” w/ Slug from Atmosphere (Rate of Exchange) in 2002 and has shared the stage w/ Slum Village, Black Sheep, KRS-One & most recently Danny Brown, Anderson Paak, & Gucci Mane. Tewz is currently getting ready to drop a remix for the influential New York experimental rock band Gray on the Ubiquity Records. He has performed locally in Chicago on radio stations WHPK, WNUR, North Coast Music Festival (NCMF), and internationally in Tokyo, Berlin, & the Festival of Planets in Colombia. Stay Tuned ~ Peace!
